Have more guile, mental agility, and grit

Updated: Jun 25, 2024

Practicing the routines required to execute a game plan is a great way to prepare for a competition. To the point, they can be perfectly executed without thinking. There is a lot of truth to the saying - fail to plan, plan to fail. But, there is also truth to the saying that no plan survives the first punch.

Winning when it is not going to plan requires...

  1. Seeing that the game plan is being disrupted by the competition - to the point it is not working; and

  2. Switch off the routines of the game plan; and

  3. Use micro routines to create a flow around the competition.

When coaches and players have good judgment on when to switch between executing the game plan routines and using micro routines to flow around what is disrupting the game plan. They have guile, mental agility, and grit.

The video below is on the routines of a game plan.
